I had a seizure disorder between the ages of 9 and 14. there are different types of seizures and some people out grow them while others have to live with them for the rest of their lives. Some seizures are so severe that it will actually end up killing the person no matter what is done through medicine or other means to help control them. I have lost a friend that has died while having a seizure. It is not uncommon. John Travolta also lost a child during a seizure I believe.
The main type of seizure I had was called Absence seizures, where basically I would stare out into space for a few seconds at a time and wouldn't remember anything that may have been said during that time. Those happen a lot more frequently. The Grand Mal seizures that I had is where you fall to the ground/floor and start "shaking" and the best way to handle someone that you see do that is to keep their head still so they don't injure themselves by hitting their head on something. Also it would be good to try to catch them and help them to the floor. Head injuries from this type of seizure could be serious. There are more types of seizures that I didn't have and I will add information about those as well.
I will add links to more information in a little while.

Here is a link to see all kinds of information about seizures straight from the Epilepsy Foundation. It has different types as well as triggers and everything else you need to know about epilepsy (seizures). Epilepsy Foundation: Types of Seizures

For me I was tested for it two years ago, but the test results for me was inconclusive. I am on medication for epilepsy, my only seizures have been in the last 10 years. 2 two years ago and one 7 years before that. so who knows.
